The Top Ten Internet Dating Sites has been published by Hitwise.  The top internet dating sites for the U.S.A. in February 2009 are as follows:

#1 – PlentyofFish, #2 – Singlesnet, #3 – Yahoo! Personals, #4 – Match.com, #5 – Date Hookup, #6 – Adam4Adam, #7 – eHarmony, #8 – Manhunt.net, #9 – BlackPeopleMeet and #10 – True.com.

PlentyofFish took over the number 1 spot in the top 10 internet dating sites as it surpassed Singlset.  eHarmony continued its fall downward, slipping to number 7 in the top 10 from its previous position of 6.

What is amazing is that many of these internet dating sites pay major advertising dollars to capture and dominate the market that they are in, while PlentyofFish relies on mostly money made from advertising programs such as Google Adsense.  The number 1 internet dating site is basically being paid by its competitors to dominate the online dating market.

eHarmony spent a whopping $93.3 million in advertising in 9 months (January – September 2008) and sits at number 7 in the top 10 internet dating sites.  Match.com spent $47.5 million and current sits at number 4 in the top 10.
